NSCN demands seized arms for DC's release

Imphal, March 24: Owing responsibility for the abduction of Chandel DC Y Thamkishore on March 18, NSCN (M) secretary general Thuingaleng Muivah said that the officer will be released unharmed if the Indian Government returns all the weapons seized from its cadres during the Pallel incident within the next few days. In an interview carried out by the Amsterdam based Naga International Support Centre (NISC) yesterday, the NSCN (IM) chief said ?the situation has been created by the armed forces of the Government of India. The GoI then must apologize for the treacherous attack and return all weapons captured by the IRB. Nothing more is to be said?. The interview e-mailed here quoted Muivah as saying, ?Nagas abhor violence. The GoI should not take this lightly. Nagas are provoke to take action. If the GoI responds positively within the next few days the DC will be released unharmed?. During the course of interview, Muivah said while the peace talks are in full swing, it is never wise to provoke such a situation. It shows that the Government of India is never sincere. The Nagas have lost trust in the endless promises of the Indian Government to abide by their commitments for a peaceful solution. Quoting reports in local newspapers, which said since the day of kidnapping after the ?brutal and merciless? killing of 11 NSCN (IM) cadres at Pallel by the IRB and arrest of an innocent canter driver, Naga public leaders in Chandel are making all out efforts for safe release of the DC, the NISC urged the Indian Government to conduct a full scale investigation into the Pallel incident by neutral authorities. It further stated that ?in the interest of the DC now in custody of the NSCN (IM) and to prevent similar reactions on provocations, NISC calls on the GoI to do the needful?. Meanwhile a well placed source informed The Sangai Express that BJP MLA BD Behring and MoS Francis Ngajokpa may be appointed to negotiate for the safe release of the abducted officer. The source further said that an informal meeting was held at the official residence of the Chief Minister this evening. The abduction issue was discussed but a definite decision on what the State administration should do could not be arrived at. The source added that the NSCN (IM) had intimated to the Union Home Ministry to pressurize the State Government to handover the arms and ammunition seized by IRB personnel. The Union Home Ministry had intimated the same to the State Government, said the source but the State Government did not respond positively to the proposal of the Home Ministry. The matter may come up for discussions when the Cabinet meets.
