DIMAPUR, Oct 24 ? SS Khaplang, chairman of the NSCN-K has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh not to sign any pact with visiting Myanmarese junta delegation for launching a joint army operation, inside the Myanmarese territory where the NSCN-K has its base headquarters, if New Delhi wants to continue the ongoing Naga peace process undisturbed.
The NSCN-K is worried that New Delhi is poised to sign a document, which would pave the way for a joint security operation along Indo-Myanmar border. The operation is said to be aimed at ULFA and Meitei rebel training bases as well as anti-Myanmar junta rebel camps.
But NSCN-K is increasingly concerned that the operation could be used as a cover to trap its cadres spread around the Nagaland-Myanmar border. The militant group sees the coming of such joint operation as a ploy to squeeze its arms supply and transit route and a step towards bottling up its movement and escape routes.
According to sources, a senior functionary of NSCN-K has already left for New Delhi to hand over Khaplang's letter to PM Singh. Though the talks are yet to begin but GOI and NSCN-K is in talking terms after signing a cease-fire agreement.
The NSCN-K has considerable firepower despite being at best the second choice for the New Delhi as far as negotiating on the future of the intractable Naga talks were concerned. It is believed to be training several cadres of several organizations including ULFA and Meitei outfits.
