AIZAWL, Feb 3 ? The number of voters in Mizoram has risen to 505584 from the previous year?s total of 481460 registering an increase of 5.01 per cent, reports PTI.
State election office sources here said the increase in the number of voters was recorded after a special summary revision of Mizoram electoral rolls. The highest increase is registered in Aizawl West-ll (ST) reserved constituency where the increase is 15.59 per cent followed by Tlabung reserved constituency near the Bangladesh border which registered an increase of 13.42 per cent.
However, four Assembly constituencies namely. Tuipang, Tawipul, Mamit and Sangau registered a fall in the number of voters by 1 per cent. According to official sources, the substantial increase in the percentage of voters in the State capital could be due to heavy exodus of the rural population to urban areas and influx of foreign nationals from the neighbouring Myanmar and Bangladesh.
