ONGC Assam Asset to revamp oil installations

SIVASAGAR, July 5 ? To increase productivity by way of a thorough revamping of the oldest oil field in the country in Sivasagar district, ONGC, Assam Asset is to go ahead with its Rs 1000 crore project for upgrading and modernisation of its existing installations and rigs in Geleki Rudrasagar and Lakwa oil fields.

Satish Chandra Upadhyay, ED & Asset Manager, Assam Asset at a press conference at Nazira on Friday delivered detailed interpretation of Expression of interests EoI) ONGC had invited from global players in the field of hydrocarbon exploration for revamping of group gathering station (GGS)-I and II in Rudrasagar field, upgrading instrumentation system and pipeline network of Assam Asset besides drilling of 12 horizontal or multilateral wells on integrated well completion basis on the first phase.

Brushing aside apprehensions that the EOI will pave the way for foreign companies to exploit the NE oil fields depriving local contractors, the ED said it will only enrich local parties resource base and expertise. After the investment, the ED hoped, the production will go up from the present 1.5 MT per annum to about 2 MT.

Asked why ONGC took so long a time in revamping its old and aging field, the ED said the price rise in international market of petroleum has enalled it to undertake the worthy project which obviously is not the sole reason. It, as everyong can witness, is the discovery of new wells in Panidihing, Changmaigaon, Larpting and Geleki that ONGC finally has decided to spend something in the areas.

Schools receive cash benefits: Five colleges, four HS schools, five high schools and a number of other social organisations of Sivasagar district were the beneficiaries of ONGC?s socio-economic development aids under Corporate Citizenship Policy 2002-03 and heads of these organisations received cheques of a total amount of Rs 45.67 lakh in a function on June 29 at ONGC colony Bihu pendal, Sivasagar. Cheques were distributed by DC, Sivasagar, Gayatri Baruah, ED and Asset Manager, Assam Asset, ONGC Satish Chandra Upadhyay and Nazira Civil SDO Biren Phukan.

Out of Rs 120 lakh earmarked for socio-economic development aids for the year, Rs 34.94 lakh has already been distributed by Assam Asset earlier. The educational institutions receiving the grants will be spent on buying computers. Smt Gayatri Baruah in her speech said that terrorism stalking through the length and breadth of the State is the fall-out of defective education and she urged the teachers to do their bit in stemming the rot.

Satish Chandra Upadhyay, ED and Asset Manager, Assam Asset, ONGC, Nazira while appreciating the role of emancipated women of Assamese society who are at an advantageous position than their counterpart elsewhere said that they should make their presence felt among those organisations which frequently and irrationally call for bandhs and barricades against ONGC in eastern region. The meeting was also addressed by NN Taye, support manager, Assam Asset, VM Serian, GM P&R, and Deben Baruah, SE, ONGC, Nazira.
