Orders to ULFA cadres came from Bangla

GUWAHATI, Dec 24 ? The orders to the cadres of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) to carry out acts of violence to protest the Royal Bhutan Army?s operation against the outfit came from the leaders staying in Bangladesh.

Highly-placed security sources said that some such messages were intercepted by the security forces involved in the counter-insurgency operations and all those messages came from Bangladesh. It is yet to be ascertained whether the orders came directly from the ULFA commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah, ? but it is sure that the orders came from Bangladesh.?

Sources said that from the messages intercepted by the security agencies, it was evident that the ULFA cadres were asked to hit police and security forces, but as they were unable to do so, the cadres indulged in violence causing harm to common people. Sources also pointed out that the ULFA indulged in most of the acts of violence during recent past during evening rush hours so that they can easily make good of their escape.

It may be mentioned here that the State witnessed an orgy of violence in recent past as suspected ULFA militants let loose a reign of terror in different parts of Assam with grenade and bomb blasts. In fact, five blasts took place in Guwahati city alone, in which one policeman and one Home Guard personnel were killed, while, a number of common people were injured.

ULFA denied its involvement in the blasts in Nagaon and Morigaon where three persons were killed and a large number of civilians were injured, but the outfit was silent about the other blasts. Security sources said that the ULFA was involved in all the blasts, but they denied involvement in the incidents at Nagaon and Morigaon only because of injuries to number of civilians.

Security sources also said that they had reports of attempts of the outfit to create disturbance in the State and adequate security arrangements were made. But it is not possible to check each and every person and the militants mostly used grenades to terrorise the people.
