DIGBOI, Jan 19 ? On the second day of Dehing-Patkai festival, the adventurous parasailing was held in Ledo airstrip of World War II, which was inaugurated by the Minister of State, (Ind) for Forest Prodyut Bordoloi. A colourful elephant procession with about 30 decorated elephants was taken out from the Borgolai sports complex escorted by forest guards which terminated at the Dehing Patkai festival ground. The procession was flagged off by S Doley, CCF, Wildlife, Assam.
On the otherhand, a silent procession started from Patkai stadium, by the NE Coal Mines Officers? Association, including the members of the slain Coal India Official Agent Pabitra Hazari paraded all the way to the NE Coal India GMs office at Margherita carrying banners, posters against insurgency, and callous attitude of district administration.
The project ?prahari? launched by APBn was inaugurated by KD Saikia DIG in an interior village, Faneng-Phake about 12 km from the Dehing-Patkai festival ground. A public meeting was held in the premises of Faneng Bauddha Vihar with Ike Chakhyap in the chair. The meeting was attended by SB Kakoty, DIG and AJ Baruah commandant, 2nd APBn as well as other dignitaries.
The village headman Wakhem Pamung entertained the guests in his house. In the evening, a cultural programme was held in the Dehing-Patkai festival venue to pay homage to Jyoti Prasad on the occasion of silpidivas. A seminar on ?Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala and the society-culture of Assam ?was conducted by Dr Biren Baruah while the main speaker was Dr Dhruba Jyoti Borah. Followed by a glittering cultural programme where Smt Soral Mansigh, internationally acclaimed choreographer mesmerized the audience with her classical dance performance.
