Paresh Baruah out of danger, says Arabinda

NEW DELHI, Dec 21 ? United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa today informed noted litterateur Dr Mamoni Roisom Goswami through an e-mailed letter that ULFA C-in-C Paresh Baruah was now out of danger.

Baruah, whose health condition has been creating confusion here following the e-mailed statement of Rajkhowa a few days back that he was ill, is now in bed rest after the successful ?surgery? he underwent, said the ULFA chairman. Baruah will have to be in bed rest for a few weeks, Rajkhowa said in his letter to Dr Goswami. He also said that the information passed on by him on the illness of Paresh Baruah was meant for the friends and well wishers of the organisation.

The ULFA was not bothered about removing the confusion prevailing among the security forces of the ?Indian occupation forces? and the media concerning the health condition of Baruah. His one line summation for this is-?We are not going to waste our time by issuing statements to remove the confusion of the enemies?.

The ULFA chairman lauded the efforts of Dr Goswami to ?restore permanent peace? in the State as sincere and assured full support to her efforts. He also appealed to her to continue with her efforts. Commenting on the letter of the Prime Minister?s security advisor to the outfit inviting it to negotiation, Rajkhowa said that they had examined ?every word? of the letter ?cautiously?. There is a historical factor for examining the letter that way, he said.

Explaining, Rajkhowa said that due to the word ?principality? incorporated in the 1826 Yandaboo Treaty, the people of Assam have been bearing the burden of the yoke of subjugation. This is why, the ULFA does not take the wordings of the official letters of the Indian Government as mere technical things, he said.

The Indian Government has used every word in the letter taking enough care. Any causal approach to the words of the letter and treating them as nothing but mere technicality, may prove disastrous, said the ULFA chairman. He also criticised the attempts made by a section of the Assamese intellectuals to mount pressure on the ULFA through mobilisation of public opinion ?for restoration of peace in Assam as desired by India?. These attempts proved futile during the past one hundred year.

The latest incident of protest of the unemployed youths of the State exposed the futility of such exercises, Rajkhowa said. He also expressed the hope that such attempts by a section of the Assamese intellectuals would not be able to divert the attention of Dr Goswami.
