Peace, normalcy has returned to Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, April 7 — Completion of one year by the Congress-I in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council was celebrated on Saturday at Diphu Stadium playground amidst great enthusiasm. In this connection, a public meeting was held under the presidentship of George Millik, chairman, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). Addressing the mammoth gathering, Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister of Assam urged the leaders of the KAAC to implement all developmental schemes to wipe out poverty and unemployment problems from the district.

Appreciating the leaders of the KAAC, the Chief Minister said that peace and normalcy has come back to the district after Congress-I came to power in the KAAC. The Chief Minister further apprised the leaders of the KAAC that there is plenty of scope to uplift the poor people by instilling small industries through the Self-Help Group. The Chief Minister further said that the District is the Granary for horticultural crops and with the production of the these crops, the unemployed youths can be engaged with small industries. The Chief Minister further declared that more developmental schemes will be adopted in this district with an aim to wipe out poverty from the district. The Chief Minister highly appreciated all the ethnic group people of the district for enabling the Congress-I to capture power in the KAAC.

Speaking about the militant outfits, the Chief Minister said that no problems can be solved under gun point. The only way to solve the problems is through discussion on the democratic process and with ‘give and take’ policy. The Chief Minister appealed to the extremist organisation to come back to the mainstream so that a strong nation can be built with concerted efforts. He also appealed to the people of Karbi Anglong to elect the Congress-I candidate in the ensuing Lok Sabha election.

Addressing the gathering, Smt Mohsina Kidwai, general secretary, AICC appealed to the people to follow the great ideals of Father of the Nation so that there is peace and normalcy in the nation. Addressing the huge gathering, Pawan Singh Ghatowar, MP, who is also the president of the APCC-I said that history should not be forgotten. While the Father of the Nation introduced the provision of the Sixth Schedule to uplift the backward people and under the dynamic steps taken by the Father of the Nation, the clause of the Sixth Schedule was inserted in the Constitution of India.

Criticising the role of the ASDC, the ASDC completely ruined the society of the district since their eleven year rule in the KAAC, but, now, the Congress-I rule in the KAAC has managed to restore peace and normalcy in the district. The president also urged the people of Karbi Anglong district to elect the Congress-I candidate selected by Smt Sonia Gandhi, president, AICC.

Addressing the gathering, Biren Sing Engti, president, DCC-I assured all the ethnic group people living in the district that the Congress-I ruled KAAC authority will give equal treatment to all the people of the district. Earlier, Khor Sing Engti, chief executive member, KAAC, read out the welcome address. In his welcome address, Engti, depicted the developmental activities executed successfully by the Congress-I rule in the KAAC in one year. The CEM appealed to the chief minister on solving all the grievances which were placed before the Chief Minister by virtue of submitting a memorandum. It is noteworthy that in the public meeting, the authority of the KAAC has extended financial help to 26 ‘victims of ASDC rule with cheques of Rs 10,000 each.
