KOHIMA, June 22 – In the backdrop of abetment of movement of insurgents across the international border, Myanmarese and Indian Army official met at Dimapur to discuss strategies to launch operations against holed-up militants in Myanmar on the lines of a similar one in Bhutan, reports PTI.
Although officials denied that there was any discussion to flush out North-east militants taking shelter on the other side of the international border, an intelligence report said the meeting chalked out strategies to launch operations against Indian militants sheltering in Myanmar.
The meeting held at Rangapahar Cantonment Sunday also discussed at length the management of the border, narcotics trafficking and movement of militants on both sides of the border, which criscrosses 1600 km through Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Myanmar, official sources said.
The sources said a 14-member delegation of Myanmarese Army was led by its Vice-Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Ye Myint and other senior officials, while the Indian side comprised top army officials from Indian Army's 3 Corps Headquarters at Rangapahar (Dimapur).
