KOLKATA, July 22 ? The post-portem report of Manorama Devi, whose alleged killing in the custody of Assam Rifles has led to mass protests in Manipur, has said that ?there has not been any rape and molestation?, a Defence spokesman said here today, reports PTI. Giving this information the spokesman at the Eastern Command Headquarters here told PTI that the post-mortem was conducted at the Civil Hospital in Imphal and its report was made available today.
He said with the receipt of the post-mortem report, the Court of Inquiry will expedite its process. At least six to seven Assam Rifles jawans have already been removed from duty for their alleged involvement in the incident, he said. The Defence spokesman also said that some more documents have been received by which, ?it is now confirmed that Manorama Devi was a corporal of PLA and has been associated with the insurgent group since 1997?.
?She was a trained explosive handler and has been involved in a number of IED plants,? he said. The 30-year-old Th Manorama Devi was allegedly killed after she was picked up from her house by 17th Batallion of Assam Rifles on July 10. The Union Minister of State for Home Sri Prakash Jaiswal, who is on a visit to Manipur, had assured that the probe into the killing by the court of inquiry would be completed by July 27.
