Probe indicts police officials in Manipur

Imphal, March 05: The preliminary departmental inquiry instituted to probe the last minute recruitment cancellation of police and MR personnel in the State Police Department in 1999-200 has indicted a number of police officials including Inspectors and Sis. Three doctors of the Police Department also figure in the list of indicted persons. The recruitment order of 49 police and MR personnel were cancelled just on the eve of the passing out parade on the ground that they do not measure upto the requisite height. The preliminary inquiry report was submitted by IGP (Administration) T Thangtuam. Disclosing this to this paper today, DGP AA Siddiqui said that though it took only one month to finalize the inquiry report after it was instituted on December 23 the report could be submitted only a week back due to 8th Assembly Elections. The DGP said that a number of irregularities in the recruitment process of the axed police and MR personnel have been detected. Answering to a query the DGP said suitable action would be initiated against the police inspectors and Sis who were named in the report for gross irregularities in the recruitment process. He however declined to name the police officials. A full departmental inquiry has been initiated against them and the report is expected within one month time, DGP said. The IGP (And) has also been asked to inquire into the cancellation of 13 IRB recruits in the 3 IRB on the eve of passing out parade on the ground that they did not conform to the requisite height and weight.
