Re-convening of Manipur House session remains uncertain

IMPHAL, January 11: Even as the period of 45 days' adjournment of the winter session of the State Assembly by the Speaker S Dhananjoy Singh expires on January 14, the convening of the session still remain uncertain as the face-off between the Speaker and Chief Minister W Nipamacha Singh continues. The session was adjourned for an indefinite period by the Speaker after admitting the Opposition's. no-confidence motion against the ruling United Front ministry on December 1 last year. Later, the Speaker again postponed the session for another 45 days by issuing an order on December 8 beginning from December 1 itself, in order to conduct repair works inside the House. Mention may be made here that the pandemonium that rocked the House on December 1 caused damages in the House. According to the Part II bulletin of the speaker, only three days are left for the expiry of the deadline. On the other hand, January 9,13 and 14 being holidays, it has become uncertain whether the notice for the Assembly session will be issued during those three days.
