ITANAGAR, Jan 17 ? Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Mukut Mithi formally launched a research project titled ?Tribal Transitions? and called upon researchers to contribute to current debate about the place of tribal cultures in the modern world, reports PTI. It is a collaborative project between the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), the British Museum, Arunachal University, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, the Centre for Cultural Research and Documentation (CCRD) here and the British Council in New Delhi.
The project is destined for five years and would be funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, United Kingdom (UK). The primary goal of the tribal transition project was to identify and analyse cultural change in Arunachal by comparing historical documents with contemporary culture. The project would document oral traditions, material culture and ritual practices among five tribes namely Monpa, Nyishi, Apatani, Adi and Idu-Mishmi.
The research team includes project director Dr S Blackburn (SOAS), supported by Richard Blurton (the British Museum), Dr Sarit Chaudhury (Arunachal University), Moji Riba (CCRD) and Prof Tamo Mibang pro-vice Chancellor Arunachal University would be one of the five advisors.
