Rs 20 crore Central sop likely for MU

IMPHAL, April 6: PHE and Law Minister O Joy today said the Ministry of Human Resources is likely to sanction Rs 20 crore for the infrastructural development of Manipur University. Opening the XII annual sports meet of MU, Ladies Hostel today, he said the information was conveyed to him by the Chief Minister. Admitting the shabby and dilapidated condition of the Ladies Hostel, Joy assured that he would personally seek the help of Union Minister of State for Food Processing, T Chaoba to renovate the hostel from the MP Fund. He also noted that something needs to be done to fix the leaking roofs and the crumbling fences of the hostel. Joy asked the students to prepare an estimate for repairing the worn out and shabby portions of the hostel. Exhorting the students to pay attention to their academic pursuit, Joy said that it is only through hard work that students can assume the mantle of leadership in the future. Commenting that sports can act as the bridge between different peoples of the world, Joy asked the young hostellers to develop the spirit of sports. The Minister donated Rs 1000 to the organisers of the sports meet. VC H Tombi said though MU is facing a financial crunch it is not lagging behind others in the academic field. MU Ladies Hostel Warden, Gambhini Devi, N Lokendra Singh, Dean of Students' Welfare also spoke on the occasion. A volley ball match between the chief guest's team and the president's team was also held.
