Rs 200 cr to modernise State police

GUWAHATI, January 18: The Government of India has decided to provide Rs 200 crore during the next five years for modernisation of the State police in response to a comprehensive proposal submitted by the State police. With this enhanced grant the State police plans to modernise the training facilities in training institutions at Dergaon and Mandakata in addition to procuring vehicles, weapons and communication equipment. The police has also drawn up plan to upgrade the existing forensic laboratory at Kahilipara to international standard and set up three regional laboratories and 25 mobile laboratories in the district headquarters. As part of the modernisation, the State police is going to house every police stations and outposts in the State in Government building, equipped with modern facilities. As sum of Rs 250 lakh has been earmarked for modernise traffic arrangements in Guwahati city and some other major towns. Police website : The State police website, , will be launched during first half of February this year. The website has already been registered. The State police was examining whether FIRs could be accepted through the website. Public grievances cell : Meanwhile, an on-line public grievances cell was in operation in the State police headquarter here. The cell receives information and complaints through Tel No. 548077 which is connected to a computer for recording and follow-up action.
