Rs 7000 cr under ACDP for Arunachal: Prabhu

BURAGAON (Arunachal), June 4 ? The Centre has allocated Rs 7000 crore for the accelerated power development programme (ACDP) for Arunachal Pradesh. ?An amount of Rs 7000 crore has been allocated for the programme and the State Government should utilise the funds earmarked judiciously for the benefit of the people? Union Power Minister Suresh Prabhu disclosed, while laying the foundation stone of 600MW Kameng hydropower project in Buragaon in West Kameng district on Sunday. The Union Minister said, under this rural electrifications would be carried out in all villages of the State including transmission and distribution of power. He said the end of 2007 would complete the rural electrification. He said the Centre would provide 90 per cent of total funds required for the project to the State Government as a grant-in-aid basis and the State Government will have to pay back 10 per cent of the money on loan basis. The Unin Power Minister said by the end of 2010 all proposed mini and micro hydropower project would be completed. ?As per the new rules adopted by the Central Government? Prabhu said responsibility would be handed over to the local communities if they desire to distribute the power from the mini hydels of their respective areas.
