RSS chief trying to sow seeds of hatred among people: NSCN (IM)

DIMAPUR, April 24 ? The National Socialist Council of Nagaland headed by Isak-Muivah while reacting to the statement made by the RSS chief K S Sudershan during his recent visit to the neighbouring State?s capital Imphal, where he blamed Christians for the upheaval and unrest in Manipur and other parts of the country, has questioned as to why he was trying to sow seeds of hatred among the people. The Convenor of the NSCN (IM)?s Ceasefire Monitoring Cell, Phungthing Shimrang during an informal interaction with the press at its office based at Diphupar village near here asserted that even before the British rule the Nagas were fighting for independence. Phungthing, a former member of the outfit?s armed wing added that Sudershan is trying to sow seeds of hatred and discord among the Nagas by stating that NSCN (IM) had never demanded for a ?Greater Nagaland? but a land for the Nagas to bring oneness among them. He went on to say that the past history is a proof that there is not caste system prevalent in the Naga society and that he is trying to create caste system among the Nagas by taking up the issue. ?RSS statement is really provocative?, Phungthing said, adding such communally sensitive statements should be avoided. ?When we are trying to bring about unity and peace and trying to curb all evil systems in the society, it is unimaginable that a person of Sudershan?s calibre is trying to create discontentment among the people.? Replying a query about his organization?s view on the present situation in the State, the CFMC convenor remarked that SC Jamir led state government is playing a ?psychological warfare? in the name of development such as taking initiatives to bring in multinationals to the state. After the declaration of ceasefire on July 25, 1997, people have been ?hypnotized? by the word ?development?, derided the sharp eyed convenor, questioning as to how such big corporations would come to a place such as Nagaland when political conflict remain unresolved. He also blamed Government of India for its ploy tocreate confusion and make the movement come down psychologically in the name of development adding the present situation is worst than the armed confrontation, the spirit of Nagas that they have resolved so long for oneness have been threatened due to various policies of the Government. Replying about how the journalists from outside the state come to know about the NSCN (IM)?s internal things that of a news item filed by Chandan Nandy recently from New Delhi, Phungthing rubbishing the report said that it was all his makings and the NSCN (IM) is not aware of passing on such information to anyone. For that matter the organization has already clarified the matter. During the interaction with the local media, Phungthing did not stop to pass comments on the local journalists of Nagaland and was of the view they have to come up at par with those media persons from outside the state. The Convenor while hitting hard on some news reports said the local journalists have to play a very important role in projecting the image of the society, the local journalists have to be more conscious of what is happening and they must try to do some ?investigative journalism.?
