Imphal, February 27: Though Yumlembam Sanamacha was picked up by personnel of 17 Rashtriya Rifles way back in February 1998 and still remain untraced and though his last rites were finally performed on February 23 this year, the investigation of the case taken up by the Yairipok Police Station is still pending as the police have yet to effect examination and arrest the guilty Army personnel. And what is more interesting is that the personnel of the 17 Rashtriya Rifles who were allegedly involved in the case have had already shifted to other States. On February 13 this year, Yumlembam Amubi Devi, the bereaved mother of the missing schoolboy, Sanamacha filed a complaint petition with the Manipur Human Rights Commission praying for obtaining the mortal remains of her son at the earliest possible, if at all the boy had been killed by the Army personnel, so that the last rites could be performed. The rights panel on February 14, among others asked the DGP to submit a detailed report on the progress of the investigations being carried out so far on the FIR Case No 18(2)98u/s 302/43 IPC of Yairipok. Complying with the proceeding, the police chief yesterday submitted a detailed report on the case before the right panel. The report said that on February 14, 1998, Yumlembam Sanatomba, elder brother of Sanamacha of Angtha Mayai Leikai lodged a written report with the Yairipok PS stating that on February 12, 1998 at about 11 pm personnel of 17 RR picked up Sanamacha and two others. The two others were handed over to the Yairipok PS on February 13 whereas Sanamacha was detained in the custody of the Army, the complainant said, and hence a regular case was registered and investigated into, it added. The police have seized the blood stained earth and rice victuals vomited by Sanamacha from the very spot where he was allegedly torture or beaten to death, the report said, adding that all the 14 prosecution witnesses have also been examined. The report of the forensic findings of the seized articles sent to FSL Pangei has also been submitted to the rights panel yesterday.
