Sanjoy Ghosh's killers in Myanmar

JORHAT, March 30 — “Three ULFA militants, namely Mridul Hazarika, Anjan Barthakur and Phatik Hatimuria, who have since been named as co-accused in the murder of AVARDNE general secretary Sanjoy Ghosh at Majuli river island on July 4, 1997, are still sheltered at camps run by the organisation in Myanmar”, claimed five disillusioned cadres, including a sister-in-arms, who surrendered before police, paramilitary and high-ranking district administration officials at the Sadar police station here today.

Admitting that the ULFA was presently running five training camps with 1,200 youths in the rugged hilly tarrain of Myanmar, the surrendees said, “The organisation is chasing an impossible dream.” While those who laid down arms are ‘area commander’ Hemen Saikia alias Indrajit Dutta alias Jogen Saikia of Mekheligaon and Madhav Saikia alias Romen Nath of Rawonapara, both from Mujali, the others are Dhansiri region ‘finance secretary,’ Siddharthamoni Bora alias Sanjib Bora of Jail Road here, Khargeswar Saikia alias Pankaj Saikia of Nagabat Saraibahi, Titabar, and married lady cadre Bobita Medhi alias Bibha Hazarika of the Enigma ‘B’ Group, who is the wife of ULFA militant Raju Deka. The first-named extremist deposited a .38 revolver, a magazine and some cartridges.
