Shillong, June 29: Come Saturday and designers from all over the region and Delhi will flock to Shillong to take part in Shades ’04, an event to promote textiles and designs of the Northeast. The one-day event, which will be held at Pinewood Hotel, has already attracted big names in the fashion industry. Besides a show and inauguration of a fashion gallery, the event will be spiced up with a DJ nite.
Organised jointly by the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation and the North East Event Management Agency, the show is the first of its kind here. It has been planned with the sole purpose of creating space for the designs and textiles of the region, the organisers said.
A fashion gallery, which opens to the public a couple of hours before the models walk the ramp inside Pinewood, will display a broader range of designer couture.
“We are sure the event will make a difference in so far as ideas and links between the fashion designers and models of the Northeast with their Delhi counterparts is concerned,” said Lipika, the brain behind Shades ’04.
Designers like Assam’s Dipankar Kashyap, Manipuri duo of Prabha and Premjit and Jyotsna Kurbah of Meghalaya will add “an ethnic feel and richness” to the evening. From Delhi, the list includes Amrij Raj Vohra and Ravi.
The show has also attracted fashionistas from Calcutta and Dehra Dun who have booked tickets. “Sounds nice, especially when it is a double treat, a fashion show and musical night,” said Santosh Martin, an ad executive holidaying here.
“Our objective is to give due recognition to the rich, diverse and colourful textiles and patterns of the Northeast,” said Lipika.
