UDALGURI, Jan 23 – Security vigil along the 265-long Indo-Bhutan border will be tightened to stop the militants from perpetrating henious crimes like the massacre of innocents at No. 3 Borigaon and Bijni once again. This was said by Sri Pradyut Bordoloi, Minister of State for Home Affairs, while interacting with the local media persons here at Udalguri circuit house on January 23. Commenting on the carnage carried out by militant outfits, Sri Bordoloi said that the killings in Bijni and Udalguri was a conspiracy and it was carried out by the NDFB extremists.
On the security of the innocent villagers, Sri Bordoloi said that the State police forces have already been alerted and five additional companies of security forces are likely to be deployed in the Indo-Bhutan border in Darrang district area. The Minister also appealed the people to strengthen the VDP vigilances in their respective villages and to form peace committees with consultation of district and subdivisional government agencies. When asked what steps the State Government has taken to make the militant groups like ULFA and NDFB to come to the negotiating table, the Minister said that first the militants should shun the path of violence. “We cannot unilaterally appoint mediators to initiate talks with them,” he added. He also appealed all sections of people living in the area to create an atmosphere of faith and mutual understanding. The Minister also declared that the State Government would take all necessary steps to rehabilitate the next of kin of the victims of No. 3 Borigaon along with compensatory and ex-gratia grants.
Earlier, Sri Bordoloi visited the No. 3 Borigaon village accompanied by Smt Hemoprova Saikia, Social Welfare Minister of Assam, Smt Mridula Sahariah, Congress leader, local MLA R Daimary, Sri Hare Krishna Deka, DGP and higher government officials and consoled the bereaved families on the carnage spot. Meanwhile, being the weekly market day at Udalguri town, all shops and business establishments were closed today as a mark of respect to the deceased persons. More than 2000 Hindi speaking people of Udalguri took out a procession to the carnage spot from Udalguri town and met the Ministers on the way and demanded proper security to their lives. Meanwhile, Sri Karendra Basumatary, MLA of Mazbat LAC also visited the carnage spot and consoled the aggrieved families. Later in a press release, Sri Basumatary demanded proper security and quick rehabilitations of the affected families.
