SHILLONG, May 25 – Two Shillong girls have bagged the first couple of positions in the 'Miss North East' beauty pageant as Ilasara crowned the title, reports PTI. Anjalika was the first runner-up in the contest held at Kohima and hosted by the Beauty and Aesthetics Society of Nagaland (BASN).
Presenting themselves before the media here Monday, Ilasara said she wanted to finish her studies and “at the moment not concentrating as fashion as career.”
“Education is till important to me although I am the title holder,” said Ilasara, who received a purse of Rs 50,000 and a crown from former Miss World Yukta Mukhey. Finishing as the first runner-up has not made any change Anjalika’s personality but boosted her confidence.
Both of them were of the view that inviting corporate world to host some show in Shillong was not their job. “It's up to other people to recognise us. We have done our bit.”
The Shillong duo bagged the crown out of a total 14 contestants from five States held at Kohima in the pageant last week. The show was organised by the BASN to mark the 125th year of Kohima town. The Fashion Society of Shillong, which prompted the girls to the Kohima contest, lamented the Meghalaya government was not helping to prop up the youths to go for such pageants.
“Ours is a non-profit society and we don’t get any help from the government while Nagaland bears half of the expenses for the show,” Manisha Lyngdoh of the society said.
