Shillong to get info-tech park

GUWAHATI, Feb 11 — North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi) plans to set up an information technology (IT) park in Shillong in collaboration with Meghaaya government, and the ground work has already been started. Meanwhile, the NEDFI has devised a two pronged strategy for the state of Meghalaya. One is to identify the industries in which the state had district competitive advantages. NEDFi has already assisted a few high value projects which have already gat off to a flying start. Secondly, NEDFi will identify local entrepreneurs for financing local resource-based industries and NEDFi is in the process of sanctioning a few such projects in the state. Till date NEDFi has sanctioned Rs 5458 lakh as assistance to 21 projects in Meghalaya covering areas take food processing, poultry, healthcare, steel, cold storage and cement production. An amount of Rs 1199.54 lakh has since been disbursed. The corporation has also assisted two NGOs in Meghalaya through its micro-finance scheme. This has benefitted 13 self-help groups (SHGs) and 137 beneficiaries.
