Shrine opened with Uttar-Priyadarshi

IMPHAL, April 11: Chorus Repertory Theatre's newly constructed Shrine, the playhouse was formally inaugurated by the Governor Ved Marwah. The playhouse is located at Samushang Uku. Later in the evening the acclaimed Uttar-Priyadarshi was staged at the Shrine. Opening the playhouse Marwah said theatre is the only kind of expression in the field of art, which deals so frankly with the socio-economic and religio-political issues with live performances. "The Manipuri theatre should expose all the humbug and hypocrisy that is afflicting Manipur's polity today. This process of self-deception must end. Blaming others for one's own failure may give temporary comfort but can be fatal in the long run," the Governor said. In Manipur today the theatre movement has truck firm roots with a number of theatre groups coming up. Manipur culture occupies a place of pride in the cultural map of the country, and its proud tradition reflects the unique character of the Manipuri people, he said. Stating that notwithstanding all the problems, creativity continues to thrive and bloom in Manipur in the shape of Chorus Repertory Theatre the Governor expressed the hope that the Shrine playhouse will become a centre of pilgrimage for art and artistes all over the country and the world. The inaugural function was presided by Vaidyanath Ayyar, Secretary Tourism and Culture, Govt of India, Ram Gopal Bajaj, Director National School of Drama, New Delhi. Vijaya Mehta, Executive Director National Centre for Performing Arts, Mumbai and many theatre personalities of the country attended the programme, which is a part of Chorus Repertory Theatre yearlong Silver Jubilee celebrations.
