IMPHAL, March 31 – Two more candidates filed their nomination papers on Tuesday for the Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency for the ensuing 14th Lok Sabha elections. Manipur will go on polls on April 20 and 26 in two parliamentary constituencies – Outer and Inner seats.
With the two nominations filed on Tuesday morning, altogether six candidates from different parties have filed their nomination papers for the Outer parliamentary constituency.
Sitting MP Holkhomang Haokip of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) submitted his papers to the Imphal West Deputy Commissioner and Returning officer Y. Surachandra at around 11:30 am. Haokip is contesting on a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ticket. He was accompanied by NCP State unit president Sri V Hangkhalian, general secretary N Radhakanta besides a number of party leaders from Chandel, Senapati and Saikul areas and party workers. Talking to this correspondent, Haokip said that as per decision of the central authority the Congress party is going to support the ncp candidates in the Outer constituency this time and the ncp Manipur unit would support the Congress candidate in Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency. Congress is fielding Manipur Minister Dr Thokchom Meinya as its candidate for the Inner seat.
On the other hand, Naga National Party (NNP) candidate Valley Rose Hungyo, who also edits a Tangkhul dialect daily in Ukhrul, also submitted her nomination papers at 1 pm Tuesday, accompanied by NNP president Ng. Hungyo. It may be mentioned that Rose is likely to be treated as an Independent candidate as NNP is yet to be recognised as a political party by the Election Commission of India.
The other four candidates who have so far filed their nominations are Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s D Loli Adanee, independent candidates Mani Charenamai, Rosungzuala of Janata Dal-United (JD-U) and former minister Morung Makunga of Independent. Kim Gangte, former MP in the 12 Lok Sabha while talking to this correspondent said that she is ready to file nomination papers tomorrow morning on Manipur People’s Party ticket as well as the consensus candidate for the Manipur Opposition Democratic People’s Alliance (DPA). Meanwhile, the candidates for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency including BJP candidate and sitting MP Th Chaoba of BJP and CPI candidate Dr M Nara also filed their nomination papers on Wednesday.
