Imphal, April 19: For all their much vaunted talk that everything is fine within the MSCP and the recent re-affirmation in the leadership of its president, Th Chaoba, an imminent split is staring the legislature wing of the MSCP in the face and the breakaway group may merge with the Congress. The MSCP which has seven MLAs in its kitty is the second largest constituent partner of the Congress led Secular Progressive Front (SPF) Government. Disclosing this an MSCP MLA said the party is bogged down by a number of pressure exerted from different quarters and this may be one of the reason why a split within the legislature wing of the party appears to be imminent. The MPCCI leadership has also started thinking along the lines of absorbing the breakaway group if and when the split is affected. Pressure from different quarters have sent the MLAs into a tizzy, revealed the MLA and added the MSCP has not yet discussed the outside pressure formally. No decision on how to tackle the situation has also been taken, he added. Even though the party has not taken up the pressure issue formally a number of MSCP MLAs have been discussing the latest development amongst themselves. Mention may be made here that the Central Executive and the legislature wing of the party had reposed their confidence in the leadership of Th Chaoba during a meeting held just after the Rajya Sabha elections. According to a well placed source, four of the seven MSCP MLAs are likely to part ways with the parent party soon and merge with the Congress. Tactic messages have been relayed to the MPCC leadership of the desire of some of the MSCP MLAs to desert their parent party and merge with the Congress. A prominent leader of the Congress said that internal trouble may be rocking the MSCP but the Congress is yet to give the green signal to the merger ?proposal? from some of the MSCP MLAs.
