IMPHAL, Mar 2 ? Rajkumar Madhuryyajit (90) the pioneer of sports movement in Manipur died here after a brief illness, his family sources said today, reports PTI. He is survived by his wife, three sons including editor of The Freedom Rajkumar Ranendrajit and four daughters. Madhuryyajit was a sports enthusaist all his life and encouraged young people from all walks of life to join in all kinds of sports. He was an active member of Manipur Olympic Association and a host of other local sports bodies. A great grandson of Bir Tikendrajit, a prince and a patriot who was hanged by the British, he was commissioned into the Army in 1932 and saw action in Burma during World War II as a staff captain of the 4-corps. Madhuryyajit was admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Science on February 11 after he fell from the staircase in his house and suffered a bone fracture. He developed cardiac problems on Thursday night and died in the early hours yesterday, the sources said. His body was cremated at his birthplace Yaiskul-Janmastan here later in the day.
