AGARTALA, May 13 ? When all political parties are demanding more power to the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council under Sixth Schedule Mizo Convention, Jampui Hills is all set to revive its old demand of ?Regional Council.? Reports reaching here from Jampui Hills said initiatives are being taken at various levels by the powerful Mizo Convention leaders for the ?Regional Council? within the ADC once again as new realignment of tribal politics in the state is taking place. Mizo Convention was formed just after communal disturbance in Tripura by powerful tribal leaders of the community like Lianzuala Sailo and RK Liana. Both were founder president and general secretary respectively and held the posts 17 years at a stretch. Mizos of the Jampui Hills irrespective of political affiliations came under the umbrella and turned convention into a force to reckon with. During the Congress-TUJS coalition government in the state the demand of Regional Council first cropped up. The Mizo Convention leaders met the then Chief Minister Sudhir Ranjan Majumdar who assured them that he would take a positive stand on the issue. The convention leaders also met the then Union Minister P Chidambaram and Santosh Mohan Dev to press for their demand. But despite assurance, Majumdar could not materialise the ?Regional Council? in the face of strong opposition from his ally TUJS.
