DIGBOI, May 9 ? Assam?s Minister of State for Home, Prodyut Bordoloi inaugurated the ?Moh-Mol? festival of the Tangsa tribe, as the quest. The fest at Changlang, in Arunachal pradesh on April 25. This festival is observed by Tangsa people to welcome the New Year. They worship different gods and goddesses according to their customary ritual, for more yield of crop and also pray for the departed souls during the year for eternal peace. In his inaugural speech, Bordoloi stated, ?Every ethnic group or tribe has its own tradition and culture to prove their identity. The ?Moh-Mol? festival of the Tangsas is very much similar to that of Rongali Bihu of Assam, and he conveyed his greetings to the people of Arunachal on behalf of the people of Assam, on the occasion. He emphasized on strengthening the bond of fraternity among the people of both the States, and called upon the people to work with concerted efforts to draw particular attention of the Centre towards development of the people. He also stressed on the opening of the historic Stillwel road from Ledo in Assam to Kunming in China through Arunachal and Myanmar, which will provide scope for border trade and cultural exchange. Bordoloi was felicitated with a Tangsa Lungi, one Dao and a Paguri (Turban) in a traditional way. The Minister of State, Arunachal Pradesh, for Irrigation and Flood Control, Tinghap Tyz, spoke on the occasion. The Deputy Commissioner, Changlang Talem Tapak speaking as the guest of honour, explained the similarity of Rongali Bihu with that of Moh-Mol and said all the festivals of the region are based on agriculture. He also referred to Ahom king in the past of marrying a Wangsu girl of Tirap and since them we treat the people of Assam as our sons-in-law. Saying Assam is the gateway to NE region, he pleaded for more cooperation between the two states.
