DIMAPUR, June 10 ? Former Nagaland Power Minister Kewekhape Therie, dropped earlier from the Council of Ministers headed by Chief Minister SC Jamir on May 15 last, has been expelled from the Nagaland Pradesh Congress for a period of six years with immediate effect. ?The Nagaland Pradesh Congress executive committee, on receiving the PCC disciplinary Action Committee?s report, has unanimously decided to expel Therie, MLA, from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress for committing serious breach of party disciplinary rules of the INC with immediate effect,? said Nuzota Swuro, MLA who is also general secretary (administration) of the NPCC on Friday. He said the decision was also approved by the joint meeting of the PCC and CLP members in presence of AICC secretary, Imran Kidwai. The resolution has been forwarded to the AICC president Sonia Gandhi for necessary action, Swuro added. It is pertinent to mention here that Therie?s sacking has created a major controversy in the political circle of Nagaland. Therie was an AICC member, who worked with Chief Minister Jamir for nearly two decades before being given the boot. Many are of the opinion that his criticism of the booklet authored by SC Jamir and published by NPCC, Bedrock of Naga Society, led to his expulsion. Therie, hailing from the Chakhesang community of Phek district, was first elected in the 1993 general elections and was given the portfolio of Public Health Engineering Ministry before being given the portfolio of Power after he was elected unopposed in the 1998 elections.
