Tripura House urges Bangla to emulate Bhutan

AGARTALA, Dec 27 ? Boosted by Bhutan?s flush out campaign against the Indian militants from its soil Tripura Assembly also unanimously appealed Bangladesh to follow suit. A resolution has been passed in the Tripura House that was deliberating on a Private Member?s resolution on Friday last. The resolution appeals New Delhi to persuade Dhaka to chase out the Indian militants who are presently holed up in that country. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar informed the House that there were at least 50 camps of the Tripura militants in the neighbouring country but at the same he clarified that never the State government accused the ?Bangladesh government? of supporting the militants.

?We want like Bhutan, Bangladesh government to clamp down on the militants who make cross border movement to carry out murderous attacks on innocent people in the State,? he said. Sarkar felt that if Bangladesh government flush the North East militants out of that country, counter insurgency operations in the region would be much easier.

At the same time we are also aware that only military might would not be enough to contain militancy and for this political process is also equally necessary. If the militants want peace talks, we are also ready to offer them free passage declared the Tripura Chief Minister in the floor of the Assembly. Opposition members though supported the resolution but during deliberation sought to point out failures and lack of political will on the part of the State government in tackling militancy. They also maintained that militancy could end through only political process. It may be mentioned here that almost all the North East militants including ATTF, NLFT, PLA, ULFA maintain their bases in Bangladesh. And all the top guns of the organisation?including Arabinda Rajkhowa and Paresh Baruah of ULFA, Ranjit Debbarma, Biswamohan Debbarma, Nayanbanshi Jamatia of ATTF, NLFT(b) and NLFT (Nayanbashi are reported to have been holed up either in Dhaka or in district headquarters of the neighbouring country. They are regularly in touch with the ISI operatives in Dhaka and are getting active support from political forces of tat country inimical to India.
