AGARTALA, July 9 : In what seems to be an attempt to pre-empt desertion of important leaders with top portfolios en masse, the Trinamool Congress high command dissolved the Tripura unit of the party. A 15-member steering committee has been formed with Amal Mallik as convenor while both the chairman and president Sudhir Ranjan Majumdar and Ratan Chakrabarty were made members. General secretary of the TMC Mukul Roy in a communication on July 6 informed the State unil that the high command had decided to dissolve the Pradesh Trinamool Congress and form a steering committee. The steering committee will suggest the names of the office-bearers of the new pradesh committee. Until then the steering committee will run the party unit as the top body. The dissolution of the PTMCC did not come as a surprise because already there were indications that many a leader of the party were toying with the idea of returning to their old party, Congress. Only recently CLP leader Jawhar Shaha also declared in a press conference that some prominent TMC leaders of the State would join Congress this month only where AICC leaders like Manishankar Aiyer and Imran Kidwai would also remain present. As the news was published, Trinamool Congress high command swung into action as there was threat of top leaders holding important portfolios leaving the party and joining Congress. The new steering panel with Mallik as chairman incudes almost al the prominent leaders like Sudhir Ranjan Majumdar, Ratan Chakrabarty, Subal Bhaumik, Asish Saha, Arunchandra Bhaumik, Mati Lal Saha, Dulal Das et al. Trinamool Congress was reduced to almost non-existent party despite tremendous political prospect in the wake of party high command?s total indifference and negligence. Neither party supremo Mamata Banerjee seriously looked into the leadership crisis of the State unit divided sharply between chairman Sudhir Ranjan Majumdar and precedent Ratan Chakrabarty nor did she raise the Tripura problems in the Parliament. Moreover, Banerjee, like leaders of other political parties, did not ever visit the State. A Trinamool Congress leader here said after the dissolution of the State unit many of the senior leaders are now determined to leave TC and join the Congress.
