NEW DELHI, Nov 17 ? All pending trade issues with Bangladesh would be resolved within three months, Commerce Minister, Kamal Nath disclosed here today. Addressing a conference of the Economic Editors? the Commerce Minister said that the decision was taken after a meeting with the visiting Bangladesh Commerce Minister.
Asserting that primary focus of BIMST-EC would be on North-east, he said that efforts were on to open two more border trading post in North-east. ?We had agreed with Myanmar to open three border posts and we want all three to be made functional to ensure balance trade.
On flooding of markets in North-east with cheap Chinese products, he said that issue had figured in meeting with the senior General, Than Shwe of Maynmar and India expressed its concern. Myanmar Government was requested to ensure that there was balanced trade. ?Border trade agreement cannot be one-sided,? it was conveyed. ?Steps are being taken to end inflow of cheap Chinese goods into the markets,? he assured.
He held lack of infrastructure logistics as one of the prime reasons for influx of Chinese goods into markets in the North-east. He further underscored the need to develop the infrastructure in the North-east to ensure promotion of border trade. The ?Look East Policy? would be continued and pursued in the interest of the North-east, he said.
