ULFA active in lower Assam

GUWAHATI, July 3 ? A 20-member group of the banned ULFA has sneaked into several districts of Lower Assam in a bid to collect funds, highly-placed official sources disclosed today. The sources said that the group including three women cadres of the militant outfit had entered the Nalbari district last week at the instruction of the leadership. ?Their aim is to collect funds and mobilise the youths of lower Assam to join the ULFA? they said. (In this context, the sources revealed that the security forces have already geared up vigilance to nab the cadres who are now operating from various districts of lower Assam.

?The three women cadres were sent to Assam to serve extortion notes to the businessmen and the common people?, the sources said, adding that during the last couple of days several businessmen of Nalbari and Barpeta districts have been served demands notes by the banned militant group. Giving information about the group, they said that the group is now controlled by one Dilip Dihingiya from Sandrup Jongkhar of Bhutan. Dilip is reportedly maintaining close links with the members of the group and their movement, the sources added.

They said that the security forces came to know about the movement of the group after intercepting radio message of the ULFA. ?We have asked the security personnel to keep strict vigilance to foil their plans? they added. On new control room of the militant group, the sources said that the ULFA has set up a high-powered controlling room in Sandrup Jongkhar of Bhutan to gather information about the movement of the security forces. The move has been initiated by the ULFA after death of its senior cadres during the past couple of months.
