ULFA concerned at tension over BTC

GUWAHATI, April 25 : The proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has expressed its ?grave concern? over mounting tension and mistrust among different communities in the State over proposed Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). Dismissing the reported allegation of Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT) publicity secretary, Mainao Daimari who stated that ULFA was trying to create confusion among Bodo people over BTC and conspiring to deprive Bodo people of their democratic right, the banned ULFA in a statement today said that the BLT leader made the ?sweeping remarks? in the media without reading between the lines the speech of the ULFA chairman made on the outfit?s raising day on April 7 last.

The ULFA publicity secretary Mithinga Daimari stated that the question of ULFA opposing the BTC formation under the Indian Constitution did not arise as the outfit did not believe that the Indian Constitution was capable of solving socio-economic problems and conflicts of different ethnic groups in the State. ?The ULFA is observing with concern the mounting tension among the communities either opposed to or in favour of the formation of the BTC. It is an ominous development which may lead to dangerous ethnic clashes in the State,? the outfit stated and warned the people at large against ?hidden agenda of vested interests to engineer communal violence in the State over the BTC issue?.

The ULFA called upon Bodos and non-Bodos to avoid collision course over the BTC issue and avoid either making provocative statements or resorting to damaging agitational course in the greater interest of social harmony in the State. The ULFA also called upon BLT and ABSU leadership to show restraint and try to sort out difference with the parties opposed to the formation of the BTC through negotiation in order to find out a solution acceptable to all concerned. The ULFA called upon parties either opposed to the BTC or in favour of it, not to be over dependent on the New Delhi?.
