ULFA denies hand in blasts

GUWAHATI, Dec 15 ? The proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has denied the involvement of its cadres in yesterday?s Nagaon and Morigaon blasts and termed those as the handiwork of ?secret killers? working at the behest of the state intelligence.

In an e-mailed statement today, ULFA commander-in-chief, ?colonel? Paresh Barua said that the blasts were carried out by the state intelligence to give credence to their publicity blitzkrieg since the last few days that the ULFA would be triggering blasts at public places between December 13 and 15. The outfit has also extended its ?heartfelt sympathy? to the families of those killed and injured.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has vehemently condemned the serial blasts across the state and criticised the State Government for its failure to protect the lives and property of the people. The North East Frontier Railway (NFR) has beefed up security along railway tracks and in and around railway premises in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the state.

Militants had triggered a blast near the Guwahati railway station last evening though no one was injured. An NFR press communiqu? said this evening that use of sniffer dogs and random body frisking of passengers have been undertaken. The authorities have sought the cooperation of the people to foil any subversive attempts.
