ULFA vows to carry on armed struggle

GUWAHATI, April 7 ? The chairman of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), Arabinda Rajkhowa has appealed to the cadres to intensify the ?armed struggle? to achieve the goal. In a statement released on the occasion of the 23rd foundation day of the ULFA today Rajkhowa claimed that despite a systematic exploitation and genocide under the patronage of Indian occupation forces, the cadres remained united. In this context, he asserted that no force can divide the liberation ?soldiers?. ?The present political secnario of the world is very sensitive and critical and considering the gravity of the situation , we have to carry forward our national liberation struggle,? he added.

Expressing concern at the ongoing exploitation allegedly committed by the government forces, the chairman said that the indigenous people of the State are facing severe hardships due to the exploitations and the people should come forward to thwart the evil designs of the forces. ?During our 23 years of armed struggle we have lost several of our soldiers while fighting against enemies and now the time has come ? we should intensify the armed struggle,? he said, adding that the ULFA will not allow the sacrifices of the soldiers in vain.

Opposing the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA), Rajkhowa alleged that the Indian occupation forces have introduced the Act with an eye to kill the innocent people of the region. ?It is a conspiracy of the enemy to destroy the freedom movement of Assam as well as the north-eastern region,? he said and appealed to the people to foil the ?heinous strategy? of the Government of India. On the proposed Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), the chairman said people of the State are apprehending trouble following the move of creation of the proposed BTC. ?The Indian Constitution cannot protect the rights of the indigenous people,? he said. Rajkhowa also reiterated that ULFA was still willing to hold talks in a bid to solve the problem, but the talks should be strictly on three conditions ie talks should be held in a third country, it should be strictly on the issue of sovereignty and talks should be held in the presence of UN representatives.
