GUWAHATI, Jan 28 ? Five members of a family were killed by suspected Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT) militants at Duligaon village under Bogribari police station in Dhubri district last night. Police sources in Dhubri told The Assam Tribune here this evening that a BLT member Rajiv Brahma escaped from a camp of the outfit located at Basbari with weapons on the night of January 26 last. Last night, a group of armed militants raided the house of Rajiv and shot dead his father Suren Brahma, mother Rene Brahma, brothers Bikramjit Brahma and Sujit Brahma and sister Manashree Brahma. Rajiv was not at home at that moment and his whereabouts are not yet known.
Police said that the needle of suspicion points towards the BLT as the area, in which the incident occurred, is dominated by supporters of the outfit and it would be difficult for any other outfit to sneak into the area. Sources said that the police is checking the BLT camps and shelter points in that area to get the details of the movement of the cadres. It may be mentioned here that the BLT is under a cease-fire agreement with the Government of India and the term of the agreement was extended by a month following a tripartite meeting between the Central and State Governments and the BLT on January 20.
