UNLF asks people to judge

Imphal, December 09: Stating it will no longer engage in a verbal duel with the KYKL, the UNLF today said that it will leave the matter to the people to judge. In a statement issued to the press today, UNLF said that it would be tough to make the KYKL realize the stand of the UNLF. Tearing into the statement of KYKL released and published in the State dailies earlier, the UNLF said that it (KYKL) still refuses to see the difference between the NSCN (IM) and the Naga people and added that the KYKL still does not know that UNLF's aspiration is for all the people of the region to live together as one. UNLF also derided the attempt of the KYKL to interpret UNLF's stand that all should live amicably together as a stand against Naga integration and added that the concept of Naga integration as espoused by the NSCN (IM) hurts not only the interest of the Meitei community but also the interest and aspirations of other communities living in the region. It would be wrong to interpret UNLF's stand solely on the basis of territory, said the statement and added that the final goal of the freedom movement is for all communities to co-exist as one and on the same plane. To achieve this, it is imperative that the Meitei community make the maximum sacrifice, said UNLF. Taking another pot shot at the statement of the KYKL, UNLF said that everyone knows that the demand of Nagalim raised by the NSCN (IM) is within the Indian Union and added that the manner in which NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah reacted to the recent statement of the Indian Prime Minister goes to prove that the demand for Nagalim is within the Indian Union. The Kuki community today understands the exact stand of the UNLF and one day the Naga community too will understand the stand of the outfit, said the statement. UNLF has repeatedly said that the identity and culture of all, especially the smaller tribes and community would be respected and given due recognition. This is a stand from which UNLF will never flinch. The questions raised by KYKL have been answered by the UNLF from 1991 onwards and there is no need to elaborate on that now, said UNLF and asked the people to judge who is on the right and who is on the wrong.
