UNLF warns Manipur CM

IMPHAL, Nov 25 ? For the first time, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh was publicly warned by the frontline insurgent outfit ? United National Liberation Front for his ?intentionally taking active part? in the large-scale counter-insurgency operations with the deployment of over 40,000 Central and State forces in the State.

The UNLF, in a statement issued on its 40th foundation day on Wednesday, blamed the Chief Minister for deployment of additional central forces in the state alleging that such arrangement was earlier resisted by his predecessors.

Ibobi who has been accorded ?Z? category security blanket after foiled attempts on his life in July last year is also the chairman of the Unified Command Structure of the central and state security forces which is now conducting the CI operations at Manipur-Myanmar border.

?The Chief Minister, his Council of Ministers, MLAs and state forces who have no ?moral values? and are ?working against interests of the people in killing their blood kin and also in looking down upon their sisters derogatorily will now be treated as national enemies,? the UNLF said.

Terming them as the ?parasitic class?, the UNLF said, ?they have lost national character built up through a historical process (which) the princely state of Manipur had experienced since 33 AD.?

Claiming that over 20 Indian security men including one Major were killed and 35 others seriously wounded against the CI operations that started since October last week, the UNLF said three of their cadres also lost their lives to repulse the advancing forces.

UNLF is one of the constituents of the Manipur People?s Liberation Front (MPLF), an umbrella organization of three underground outfits who professed to fight for the unity of the numerous ethnic tribes of north-east India and for the liberation of Manipur.

Ibobi who has been reiterating his appeals to the armed youths for peaceful dialogues with the Centre under the Indian constitution survived with minor injuries when rebels attacked his convoy at Wangjing Bazaar on July 27 last year. Two of his security personnel were killed and four others injured in the assasination bid.
