SHILLONG, Nov 30 ? Meghalaya Agriculture Minister, HDR Lyngdoh has expressed the need for upgradation of the state?s basic agriculture training centre at Upper Shillong here into a full fledged Meghalaya Agriculture Training Institute with PhD courses to cater the need of the whole north-eastern region.
Lyngdoh made this observation when he along with the state Parliamentary Secretary for Horticulture, L Malngiang accompan visited the centre yesterday. He also inspected the sites for the proposed fruit and vegetable regulated market to be established by the state government in the area to enable the farmers to sell their produce and help them from the monopoly of middlemen.
During the day, Lyngdoh who inspected the fruit garden of the agriculture department, was dissatisfied with the performance of the establishment for low revenue generation and directed the official for improvement. Lyngdoh also directed the officials to prepare a detail proposal for taking up suitable projects in the ten hectare of land available in the fruit garden in cluding proper fencing. The farm land should be utilised in such a way as to also attract the toursts visiting the state, he said.
