Wireless sets donated to Kaziranga National Park

GUWAHATI, April 22 — Aaranyak, a society for biodiversity conservation in North East India, in association with the UK-based David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) has donated the first phase of the wireless communication equipment to the world famous Kaziranga National Park recently a press release said. The equipment consist of 40 wireless hand sets and 9 base stations along with necessary accessories. Pradyut Bordoloi, the Forest Minister of Assam handed over the equipment to the forest officials of the KNP in the ceremony held at Kohora Forest Rest House. NK Vasu, the Director of KNP along with the DFO-eastern Assam Wildlife Division, AC Das, A Dey and L.N. Barua, both Assistant Conservator of Forests, KNP were also present in the function. Speaking on the occasion, Bordoloi has appreciated the gesture and support provided to KNP by Aaranyak and DSWF. He urged the civil societies to come forward to help conservation of wildlife in the State.

Earlier Dr Bibhab Kumar Talukdar, Secretary General of Aaranyak welcomed all the dignitaries present on the occasion and briefed them about the concept of the Wireless Communication Project of Aaranyak and DSWF for Kaziranga which will be a 10 year project. He mentioned that Aaranyak in association with DSWF shall donate more than 100 hands sets and about 30 base stations to KNP besides solar panels in next two years time.

The second phase of the equipment will be donated in middle of this year to enhance the anti-poaching network of KNP. Dr Talukdar also mentioned the earlier project of Aaranyak-DSWF through which it provided wireless equipment to Orang NP and Pobitora WLS along with solar panels and Speed Boat.

The meeting was also attended by the Honorary Wildlife Warden of Golaghat, M Sarma and few other social leaders. Aaranyak was represented by Dr Rathin Barman, Vice President, Md Firoz Ahmed, Programme Secretary and Ashok Dey, Finance Secretary.
