AIZAWL, Feb 14 ? A meeting of all the major non-governmental organisations and political parties in Mizoram here Thursday formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) to spearhead a movement protecting delimitation of Assembly constituencies by the Delimitation Committee, reports PTI.
The JAC spokesman told PTI that the NGOs including the Young Mizo Association and the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) or Mizo Students? Federation and representatives of all major political parties were unanimous in condemning the draft delimitation proposals. The JAC would launch a statewide procession on Tuesday next to protest the proposal of the Delimitation Committee headed by Justice Kuldip Singh and all the people in Mizoram would be requested to wear black badges on Wednesday when the Delimitation Committee would discuss the draft proposals, the spokesman said.
He said the draft delimitation proposal was intended to ensure that more legislators were elected from the minority communities like the Chakmas and the Brus. ?The Delimitation Committee did not know the topography of the State at all and the proposal as a whole was completely absurd,? he said. Earlier, the MZP has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Election Commissioner urging him to set aside the impugned delimitation proposal.
