Zoramthanga, Kyndiah discuss peace

NEW DELHI, June 19 – The Centre said it would work for peace through dialogue and take all steps for speedy economic development of the north-eastern region, reports PTI. The UPA government is keen to achieve peace through the process of dialogue and would take all steps for the development of the entire region, an official release quoted Union Tribal Affairs and Development of North Eastern Region P R Kyndiah as having told Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, who called on him on Friday.

Zoramthanga discussed a wide range of issues related to the development of the entire region and the state in particular, with Kyndiah. They emphasised creating a congenial environment for holding talks with the underground outfits. Kyndiah assured Zoramthanga of all possible assistance to meet the special needs of Mizoram.

Disease discounted :Doctors have discounted reports that seven persons died of a mysterious disease in the Mizoram-Tripura border village of Zawlnuam and indentified the deaths as having been caused by tuberculosis, cancer and malaria. State health department officials said here on Friday that while two persons died of tuberculosis, one died of cancer and another succumbed to the fatal plasmodium falciporum malaria. One person died of tetanus infection.

Meanwhile, students of Zawlnuam area have demanded that doctors should be posted in the area to prevent recurrence of such deaths and threatened to launch an agitation if the state government did not concede to their demand.
