Justice for Parag
Journalists of Karbi Anglong stage a sit-in demonstration demanding a court judgement against the accused in the journalist Parag Das murder case at Diphu in Karbi Anglong district, Assam on July 25, 2009. Veteran journalist Parag Das was shot dead in Guwahati's Rajgarh Road near Chandmari in broad daylight on May 17, 1996. Though the Assam Police initiated a probe into the sensational murder case initially, the case was later handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI filed the chargesheet in this connection in November 24, 2000 where it named four former cadres of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) as the prime accused. They were Mridul Phukan, Nayan Das, Diganta Baruah and Tapan Dutta. The charge sheet submitted by the CBI featured accounts of around 70 witnesses.
