ANVC cadres willing to come overground: Lapang

SHILLONG, June 6 – The underground Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) extremists of Meghalaya have indicated their willingness to come overground and many more ultras will come forward to return to the mainstream, Chief Minister DD Lapang has said, reports PTI.

“ANVC cadres are showing a green signal,” official sources today quoted the Chief Minister as saying at a gathering at Nongpoh on Friday on the occasion of 12th Ri-Bhoi district foundation day celebrations. Many more would come forard to return to the mainstream. This was a “welcome sign” for peace in Meghalaya, he said.

Many members of the outlawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), he added. Stressing on the need to open door for investments, the Chief Minister said narrow interests were arresting development in the State.

Lapang said the inclusion of P R Kyndiah, Lok Sabha member from Shillong constituency, in the Union Cabinet was a "blessing" for the north eastern state and hoped it would benefit the state.

Lapang, an MLA from Nongpoh area, said he had submitted to the 12th Finance Commission for creation of a civil sub-division at Patharkhmah in the district.
