ANVC denies hand in DFO abduction

TURA, June 24 – The banned A’chik National Volunteers Council (ANVC), which is suspected to be behind the kidnapping of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Balpakram National Park, D Sathiyan, from Baghmara town on June 18, has denied any hand in the abduction. Rehab package for ultras tabled in Meghalaya House

SHILLONG, June 20 – A deposited rocket launcher or a snifer rifle would make a surrendered militant in Meghalaya richer by Rs 25,000, while laying down an AK-assault rifle would fetch him Rs 15,000, as fixed in a rehabilitation package by state government, reports PTI. The scheme for surrender-cum-rehabilitation of militants in the state, tabled in the Assembly here Friday by Chief Minister D D Lapang, announced incentives for the laid down weapons and ammunition.

Meghalaya to modernise police force

SHILLONG, June 9 – The ruling Congress in Meghalaya has asked the 12th Finance Commission for a special assistance to modernise the State’s police force and creation of additional battalion of armed police to enforce law and order in the State. SHILLONG, June 4 – The Meghalaya Government will soon take up the issue of state-based militant camps in Bangladesh with the new government at the Centre, as part of a fresh approach towards tackling the menace of militancy.
