Army still harassing Nagas: NSCN (IM)

Imphal, June 06: The Government of People’s Republic of Nagalim, GPRN has stated that ‘Nagalim’ has been the hunting grounds for Indian and Myanmarese armed forces with Nagas as their favourite prey ever since both the countries attained their independence. The GPRN in a statement said that Nagas have been tortured and killed by the Indian and Myanmarese armed forces not for foolishness or treason but because of their love for motherland and the people. The Indo-Naga armed conflict has been going on for the last more than fifty years to resolve the issue, ceasefire between the two sides was declared on August 1, 1997 and it was extended from time to time but in actual practice there has never been a ceasefire, the GPRN charged. The Indian forces have been carrying out headhunting of NSCN cadres and harassing civilian populace routinely breaking the ground rules of ceasefire. There is no dearth of unscrupulous conscience in the security personnel in order to earn personal promotions the GPRN said. Citing examples, the GPRN said that on January 20 last (2002) the 10 AR raided and ransacked the house of Medem Jamir, Steering Committee member at 5th Mile, Dimapur, and on February 5, the 33 AR raided the whole Khangshim village and seriously beat one Modelson, 25 at Kharmi region, Chandel district. In another incident, Pte K Adahe, Naga Army, of Pudunamei village at IT road, Shepoumaramth region, Senapati district was arrested by the 21 AR, the GPRN added.
