'Buried' Mizo girl returns home

AIZAWL, March 21?A 24-year-old Mizo girl returned home after her family accorded her ?a decent burial? at Vairengte bordering Cachar district of Assam, reports PTI. A decomposed body of a girl was found at an empty house at Ramnagar near Silchar in Cachar district on March 10 which was ?identified? as that of Chhandami of Saipum hamlet under Vairengte police station by her uncle, police sources said today. As Chhandami was of same height and sported the same hair style with an identical scar on her abdomen, her uncle was sure that the decomposed body was that of his niece missing for some days, the sources said. And angry Chhandami who returned home home last Friday vent her fury on her family when she learnt that she had been declared ?dead? and ?buried? on March 12. A magisterial inquiry has been instituted into the incident. The police, who were yet to exhume the body which was given a burial, have alerted the administration in all districts to report any case of a missing Mizo girl of 5 feet 2 inches with a scar on the abdomen. The inquest report said the neck of the interred girl was broken. She was also suspected to be a habitual drug abuser as injection marks were found on her arms. The police were yet to receive the post-mortem report from doctors in Silchar.
