BANGKOK, March 10 — Underscoring the need for the continuance of the ongoingg Naga peace talks with the Centre, Nagaland NSCN(IM) has urged the Indian Government to depute a politician instead of a bureaucrat to hold parleys with the group, reports PTI.
NSCN sources said they were keen to have a politician at the talks instead of a bureaucrat. “In any talks, there has to be give and take, and it is difficult sometimes to negotiate with non-politicians.”
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, who was in Bangkok over the last two days, said he had met with NSCN (IM) chairman Chishi Swu and both of them had urged the need for peace talks to proceed. “The peace talks are progressing very nicely,” Zorma-thanga said, adding he had been unable to meet with top leaders of the Karo tribe but hoped that he could meet with them in the future to bring them also to negotiate peace.
Zoramthanga also met one of the leaders of the group here and said he may come again for a future round of talks with them. Sources said top leaders of the Karos are based in Bangladesh and the President of the group was unable to make it to Bangkok to meet with Zoramthanga. They also said the NSCN would try to hold talks with other militant groups in the Northeast to come to the negotiating table and talks to the Centre, adding “arms cannot solve problems.”
